Character, Courage and Comebacks A Baltic Matchday to Remember

U8 Coach Ashley (Written by Ferdinand)

Today’s U8 Cup fixtures proved to be a stern test, with the team facing three of the strongest sides in the league on a challenging 3G surface. Although the results did not go our way, there were plenty of positives to take from the performances. Impressively, the boys took the lead in all three matches, showing confidence and attacking intent from the start. However, maintaining that advantage proved difficult against high-quality opposition. The final scores were 3–1 defeats against Newstreet, Down Grange and Popley. Despite the setbacks, the players demonstrated excellent commitment, resilience and teamwork throughout qualities that will serve them well as the season continues.

U9 Coaches Warren & Aran

The U9s were involved in a fiercely physical friendly against a strong Division 2 side. After falling 3–0 behind, the boys showed remarkable character to battle back into the game. Three superb goals brought the score level at 3–3, highlighting the team’s determination and refusal to give in. Although the opposition scored again to win 4–3, the performance spoke volumes about the squad’s spirit and togetherness. Harry was deservedly named Man of the Match for an outstanding all-round display. The coaches praised the effort of every player and thanked parents for their continued support on the side lines.

U10 Coaches Justin & Brendan

A thrilling encounter ended in a 4–4 draw after what the coaches described as a game of three phases. The team started brightly, playing controlled football and scoring an excellent team goal. The middle period proved more difficult, with heads dropping after conceding and positional discipline slipping. However, the final phase saw a strong response, with the players rediscovering their composure, teamwork and fighting spirit. Goals came from Lucca, Steven, Gully and Raphael, with several memorable moments including Raphael’s impressive solo run and finish. Ollie was named Player of the Match, while Raphael earned the Captain’s Pick. Considering the dramatic swings in momentum, a draw felt a fair outcome.

U12 Coach Fabio

Playing with only eight players, the U12s delivered a courageous performance despite the numerical disadvantage. They began positively but found midfield control difficult while a player short. The defence worked tirelessly to keep the opposition at bay, though a free-kick situation led to the opening goal. Aleks responded with a well-taken equaliser, giving the team renewed belief. The second half was physically demanding as pressure mounted, and a late, somewhat contentious penalty decided the match, ending 2–1 to the opposition. Lucas, who joined only recently, was named Man of the Match for his hard work, attitude and rapid improvement. Most pleasing of all was the unity shown by the team from start to finish.

U14 Coaches Stuart & Robert

The U14s enjoyed a well-contested and balanced match, creating chances while also defending resolutely. After going behind early, Lewis produced a fine individual effort to bring the team level. Harrison then secured victory with an excellent long-range strike. Both Harry and Noah contributed selflessly by sharing goalkeeping duties across the halves. Pavel delivered a captain’s performance in midfield, while Arlo earned Player of the Match on his debut for an assured display in defence on both flanks. Special appreciation was also given to Nico and Fernando for their support from the side lines. Ferdinand's Final Word Another weekend full of effort, learning and team spirit across all age groups exactly what grassroots football is all about. ⚽
