- Jan 18
- 3 min read
It was a busy and encouraging matchday for Baltic Youth FC, with teams across the age groups showing commitment, teamwork, and plenty of positives to build on as we continue into the new year. A huge thank you to all players, coaches, parents, and volunteers for their support throughout the day.
Under-16s
Thank you to all players and parents for their commitment today, and a special mention to Ben for running the line.
This was the team’s first game back for 2026, and every player should be extremely proud of their performance. The first half was dominant, with plenty of opportunities created through positive play. In the second half, fatigue began to show, but the players continued to battle and showed great determination.
There were some really encouraging moments of build-up play, although more work can be done in the final third. The team were rewarded with a well-worked goal that they fully deserved.
Full-time score: Baltic 1–2
Man of the Match: Gabriel A solid performance in a very tough decision, as every player performed to a high standard.
Under-14s
A great win for the boys today following a well-balanced first half. At half-time, the score line of 1–1 fairly reflected the game. The players were encouraged to be more clinical in front of goal, and they responded brilliantly in the second half.
As the team took the lead, excitement began to creep into behaviours, something that will be worked on moving forward. Calmness and composure will be key as this has previously undone some strong performances.
There were good performances across the pitch in every department, showing real team effort and progress.
Full-time score: Baltic 4–1
Player of the Match: Tawanda Recognised for his continued improvement, persistence, an assist, and consistently positive play.
Under-12s
The team started the game with good hunger and energy. Despite conceding first, the reaction was excellent, going after the game and turning it around, which showed real character.
Unfortunately, control was lost later in the match. Poor communication in the penalty box led to a second goal, followed by two more from corners. Defensive communication and stronger challenges will be a key focus going forward.
There were good spells of football throughout the game, with quick ball movement, one-twos, and intelligent runs into space. These moments need to happen more often, along with greater focus when chances arise.
Defensive work rate is an area to improve. If players run forward to attack, the same effort must be shown when tracking back to defend.
Although the result didn’t go our way, there were valuable lessons to take from the game. Honest self-reflection is how players continue to improve.
Player of the Match: Tyler showed outstanding hunger and commitment, attacking every challenge with intensity, reacting quickly to regain possession, and staying focused from the first minute to the last.
Under-10s
Despite a 5–2 defeat, there were many positives to take from today’s performance. The team played some excellent football, with every player getting their head up and looking for a pass something that has been a real focus in training and is starting to show on matchdays.
The result could easily have been different, and all players should be proud of how they played. The team will continue working towards their goals and go again next week.
Man of the Match: Thabi Captain’s Pick Tait
Under-9s
Well done to the Under-9s for an outstanding performance today. The young players showed great enthusiasm and effort throughout the game fantastic to see their continued development and enjoyment of football.
Under-8s
Today’s game marked the debuts of Samuel and Miqueias, both of whom made a significant impact on the pitch.
The team showed excellent character and teamwork, balancing their attacking and defensive responsibilities well. After a long break, the commitment and enthusiasm from the players was outstanding and a great way to start the year.
Player of the Match: Miqueias was exceptional on his debut, reading the game well and making crucial tackles. He was a real rock at the back and played a vital role in the team’s performance.
While there were many positives to celebrate, there is still room for improvement as the team continues to develop.
A special thank you to our referee for maintaining a high standard of officiating and allowing the game to flow smoothly.
Ferdinand's Final Word
Well done to all players across every age group for their effort, attitude, and commitment. Thank you to our coaches, parents, referees, and supporters for your continued support. A very positive start to the year let’s keep building and moving forward together.

A strong and positive matchday write-up that reflects the effort, learning, and commitment shown across all teams. It highlights key moments and individual performances well, while keeping the focus on development and teamwork. With a bit more balance in detail across each age group, it could be even better.👍
